A Pol\u00edcia Federal, com o apoio do IBAMA, deflagrou a Opera\u00e7\u00e3o Curim\u00e3 II, com objetivo de fazer cessar atividades de extra\u00e7\u00e3o ilegal de ouro na zona rural do munic\u00edpio de Centro Novo do Maranh\u00e3o.
M\u00e1quinas, motores e petrechos utilizados para a extra\u00e7\u00e3o ilegal de ouro e tamb\u00e9m para a pr\u00e1tica de outros crimes ambientais est\u00e3o sendo apreendidos e inutilizados.
O local objeto da a\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 conhecido como garimpo do Cipoeiro. Al\u00e9m das a\u00e7\u00f5es policiais ostensivas dentro do garimpo, foram cumpridos outros 3 mandados de busca e apreens\u00e3o em resid\u00eancias de pessoas investigadas no inqu\u00e9rito policial, pelos crimes ambientais e de extra\u00e7\u00e3o ilegal de minerais da Uni\u00e3o.
A opera\u00e7\u00e3o conta com a participa\u00e7\u00e3o de policiais federais do Comando de Opera\u00e7\u00f5es A\u00e9reas \u2013 CAOP, do grupo de Bombas e Explosivos \u2013 GBE, e do grupo de Pronta Interven\u00e7\u00e3o \u2013 GPI, al\u00e9m do apoio do Centro T\u00e1tico A\u00e9reo \u2013 CTA e do Instituto Brasileiro de Meio Ambiente e Recursos Naturais Renov\u00e1veis \u2013 IBAMA.
Durante a opera\u00e7\u00e3o foram inutilizadas 2 m\u00e1quinas tipo p\u00e1 carregadeira-PCs e v\u00e1rios motores utilizados no garimpo, al\u00e9m da apreens\u00e3o de outras 7 PCs, 1 trator e 2 caminh\u00f5es do tipo ca\u00e7amba.
A Pol\u00edcia Federal registra que na \u00e1rea h\u00e1 vastos elementos que indicam os crimes previstos no art. 2\u00b0 da Lei 8.176\/1991 (crime de usurpa\u00e7\u00e3o de bens da Uni\u00e3o) e no art. 55 da Lei 9.605\/1998 (crime ambiental).
